One local Republican weighing the decision to enter the 3rd District congressional fray is Rep. Joyce Peppin, R-Rogers.
"I am considering it," said Peppin, a second-term lawmaker.
Peppin, speaking the day after Congressman Jim Ramstad announced his retirement from the U.S. House, said colleagues and friends have called, urging her to consider a run for Congress.
Peppin said the idea occurred to her, too.
The lawmaker, by profession in public relations and by advocation a long distance runner, explained that she was still sorting out her options.
News of Ramstad's retirement was surprising. "It took many people off guard," she said.
Peppin said she has been in contact with possible campaign contributors and heard encouraging comments from them.
Peppin said she would probably make a decision within a month - possibly sooner.
Ramstad indicated on Monday that he would not become involved in endorsing candidates.
