Ex-marine from Princeton sees history in far-off places

Jim Dalziel, Princeton, is a flight mechanic whose trips often mean not wandering more than 50 feet away from his plane for 65 hours straight.

His quarters on these trips are on two seats on the back of a Boeing 767 that he is responsible for keeping maintained and fueled. He stores cold weather and warm weather gear in compartments around the plane so he is prepared for every kind of destination.

Large amounts of H1N1 vaccine may be available in fall

lynfield_1.jpgAlthough the Minnesota State Fair may have the public more focused on things at the end of sticks than under microscopes, state health officials recently conducted a tabletop exercise on flu vaccine distribution.

While some seasonal flu vaccine has already arrived in the state, MDH officials today (Wednesday, Aug. 26) indicated that large amounts of pandemic H1N1 vaccine might become available by late October or early November.

Workable solution sought to keep Vikings in Minnesota

ECM Editorial Board -- Business and political leaders must get involved with providing a new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings, or they will consider leaving the state.

The Vikings are dead serious over the need for more revenues which they say can only come from building a new football stadium preferably on the Metrodome site where all the infrastructure and light rail are in place.

Senators Klobuchar, Vitter introduce bill to catch child predators

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and David Vitter (R-LA) today (Monday, Feb. 1) introduced the Arresting Child Predators Act to improve the ability for three law enforcement agencies to catch child predators.

The bill would extend administrative subpoena authority to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) specifically in cases that involve child exploitation.

Rhetoric and reality with school family involvement

Joe Nathan Column -- A meeting last week reminded me: Rhetoric and reality sometimes depart when it comes to parent involvement in education.  Some educators want parents to volunteer, help with their children and contribute money.  But they downplay asking parents for advice.   This does not apply to all educators.  But it remains a problem.

Here are two sides of family involvement and then a suggestion.
