Just wish I could have taken every Minnesota parent and politician to an awesome event held last week in Forest Lake. More than 500 parents, grandparents, educators, kids and community leaders packed a gym to dedicate the conversion of a former hospital and clinic into the beautiful home of Lakes International Language Academy - a three-year-old charter public school.

Waldoch Farm tradition remains in Lino Lakes area on Lake Drive

Somewhere along the line Mary Joyer fell in love with farming and making a living off the ground.

Perhaps it was rooted in the work of her grandfather, William Waldoch, who grew potatoes on the Lino Lakes acreage and would use horses to haul hay to St. Paul in the early years of the 20th century. See more in Cliff Buchan's Forest Lake Times story.

   

Cambridge area team plans to

Each one of them is walking for their own personal reasons or as a result of their own personal experiences. But they all have one common goal: to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

A group of local women will walk in the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure Breast Cancer 3-Day August 24-26. The 3-Day is a 60-mile walk that takes place over three days, with participants averaging 20 miles a day. See more in Rachel Kytonen's Isanti County News story.

With one tornado touching Minnesota this spring already, the severe weather season has arrived. Next week, April 9-13, is "Severe Weather Awareness Week," and the ball is rolling to increase the sets of eyes watching the skies over Isanti County. North Branch chooses superintendent of schools, Deb Henton

Following a day spent in the district and lengthy interview, Deb Henton was chosen, unofficially and pending contract negotiations, as the North Branch Area School District's next superintendent, starting July 1, 2007. See more in ECM Post Review.
   

Rosemount soldier, Spc. Sean K. McDonald, dies in Iraq

Spc. Sean K. McDonald, 21, of Rosemount, died March 25 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. See Tad Johnson's story in Thisweek Rosemount.

McDonald was assigned to the 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, based in Wiesbaden, Germany. McDonald was not married and had no children. His sister, Jessica, lives in Rosemount.

Chase Korte's memory etched in peace essay award given at Elk River High School

One of the many things they remember about Chase Korte at Elk River High School involves the annual Peace Essay contest. Korte, an actor who died Feb. 10 at age 24 in an auto accident, was the 2000 winner of the contest. See more in Star News.
