Elk River golfer Steve Johnson named captain of 2007 Minnesota men's USGA team

Randy Glasmann and Steve Johnson have been selected to captain the 2007 Minnesota men's and women's state teams at the USGA's State Team Championships, Sept. 18-20 at The Club at Carlton Woods, Woodlands, Texas.

Worker hurt in Wyoming plant explosion

An explosion Friday morning in Wyoming seriously injured a worker at All Safe, 26443 Fallbrook Ave.. Fire Chief Dennis Berry said a male worker, believed to be in his 30s, was working on a small oxygen cylinder when it exploded shortly before 10 a.m.

Sen. Chaudhary looks to University of Minnesota to establish India Center

A local lawmaker wants the University of Minnesota to start a center focused on the country from which his family traces its roots.

Sen. Satveer Chaudhary, DFL-Fridley, whose parents came from India, is looking for the University to establish an India Center.

Mille Lacs County Sheriff's investigator on leave, charged with harassment

An investigator with the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office is on administrative leave following charges of harassment.

James Darryl Osowski, 43, of Milaca was served with a summons last week for felony and gross misdemeanor harassment. See more in Dawn Slade's Mille Lacs County Times story.

There was a time Guy Rowe didn't talk about the invasion of Iwo Jima.

Memories of the bloody battles were too painful for the former infantryman for the U.S. Marine Corps. The Otsego man, 82, who survived the 36-day battle on the island of Iwo that claimed 25,851 U.S. soldiers, eventually found talking about it helpful.

It got things off his chest.
