Donna Setter has been serving the families of North Branch Area School District #138 for 20 years. On Jan. 26, she resigned her position on the school board.
At a work session recently, the school board made plans to fill the vacant position, but not before Chairwoman Kim Salo had many kind words to say about Setter. Woodbury, MN -- Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) this weekend at her Woodbury office read through some of the "Valentines for Veterans" that were made by elementary school children in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District.
Bachmann’s office notified schools about the "Valentines for Veterans" project in January and facilitated the pick-up of several hundred valentines across the district last week.

Hardy Minnesotans are invited to enjoy winter festivities in Ham Lake Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 during the fourth annual Ham Lake Snowbowl.

Rumors continue to surface that Crystal Cabinet Works in Princeton is closing its doors. The rumors are false, according to company owner and president Jeff Hammer last week.

Credit card holders can circle Feb.22 on their calendar as the day when new consumer protections laid out in the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 kick in. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Minnesota and North Dakota explains what these new consumer protections mean to cardholders across the US.
The US Census Bureau predicts that in 2010, the number of US credit card holders will grow to 181 million.

The Senate today (Monday, Feb. 8) presented a $50 million jobs creation bill, one featuring angel investor tax credits and a tax credit for rehabbing historic buildings.
Other features of the proposal, which include provisions dealing with tax increment financing, are similar to a proposal recently offered by the House.
Sen. James Metzen, DFL-South St. Paul, presented the Senate jobs legislation today (Feb. 8), one offering angel investment tax credits and other provisions.
UPDATE: Despite life-saving efforts by Mille Lacs County Jail staff, ambulance personnel, medical staff at Fairview Medical Center and North Memorial Hospital, Walter Alan Wildhirt died on on Saturday, Feb. 6 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
Correctional officers found convicted sex offender Wildhirt, 32, had attempted suicide in the Mille Lacs County Jail, Milaca, on Thursday, Feb. 4. He was scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, Feb. 5.
A full house Thursday night at the theatre in Minneapolis gave much applause to the production which continues through April 3.

And a woman moving back to Colorado is making arrangments to part with her abundance of things to furnish a home for a woman trying to make a fresh start. These are just of few of the things going on in Elk River after the 1,000 Acts of Random Kindness campaign kicked off Monday in downtown Elk River.
The hope is that 1,000 acts will be recorded by month’s end. “I know we will do it,” said Elk River Mayor Stephanie Klinzing, who was the brainchild of the campaign.
