Hidden painted rocks aim to spread joy around Milaca

A local woman is using painted rocks to spread positivity in Milaca.

Jessica Szeflin spent much of her spare time over the winter months painting rocks, which she later hid around the Milaca area for people to find. She has also started a Facebook group called #MilacaRocks where local people are free to post pictures of any rocks they find while they are out and about, or to post pictures of rocks they themselves are painting and hiding around town. Participation is encouraged.

Szeflin came to the Milaca area from Memphis, Tennessee, and the idea of placing painted rocks around the community comes from a similar effort she heard about in her home city.

She watched the activity of Memphis’ 40,000-strong 901 Rocks Facebook group, and decided she could try bringing the initiative to Milaca.

“I was inspired by some of the pictures and stories I heard in the group,” Szeflin said, “and I figured it doesn’t cost anything.”
