‘Holy Rollers’ complete array of missionary work

A small group of women from Spring Lake Lutheran Church in North Branch made a commitment in 2002 to do special missionary work for third-world countries.

The church works with Global Health Ministries. On March 10, the Rev. Mark Gruner and women of the church donated 22 quilts, 68 newborn kits, four baby blankets and 3,561 rolled bandages. AmericInn Lodge and Suites, in North Branch, donated sheets for the bandages.

The women, called “The Holy Rollers,” roll the bandages at home and get together once a month at the church to tear the sheets. The bandages have specific assembly requirements.

“The bandages have to be 2 by 4 inches in width, white, closed off with masking tape, and put in small boxes,” volunteer Mary Johnson said. “There is an endless supply of need.”
