District 44 legislators to target tax relief, transportation in ‘intense’ session
With local temperatures running at a all-time high across Minnesota, legislators are off to a similarly hot start this spring.
Senator Terri Bonoff, DFL District 44, said tensions are already at an unprecedented level for so early in the session.
“It’s kind of a crazy session so far. I’ve never seen it so intense from day one,” Bonoff said.
She described the atmosphere as “contentious,” in part due to the atypically short session.
“We did away with niceties and introductions and dove right into the conflict,” Bonoff said.
Representative Jon Applebaum agreed, adding that the intensity had been anticipated, given how the last legislative session left off.
“It hasn’t been a surprise,” Applebaum said. “Last year’s session ended in complete chaos, so it would have been naive to expect anything different.”
