Forest Lake Area School District to see solar savings

Earlier this year, Xcel Energy rolled out a new solar program that provides incentives to customers choosing to connect photovoltaic solar panels to their buildings. The Forest Lake Area School District worked with Apex Efficiency Solutions of Anoka in an effort to take advantage of those incentives.

The plan, approved by the School Board in September, will see the entire cost of the project wrapped into the energy savings and will therefore have no up-front cost to the district.

“We worked together with Apex to structure the savings and financing so that the district will receive more than $200,000 worth of savings in 2016 and between $80,000 and $100,000 every year between 2017 and 2035,” Business Director Larry Martini said. “This savings will not only boost our bottom line but also shows that we are working hard to save taxpayers money.”
