Carver County criticizes Met Council housing plan
In late March, the Metropolitan Council approved a draft of the 2040 Housing Policy Plan amendment and opened it up for public comment, and at the May 5 Carver County Commissioners meeting, Carver County board members and employees voiced their displeasure.
“As far as I’m concerned, it is a thinly disguised plan to circumvent suburbs and target the money to the inner core,” said board chair Randy Maluchnik. “I think that most people who work in this field weren’t fooled by this plan.”
Members of the board and county employees expressed concerns regarding funding for affordable housing needs in the coming years. Those speaking against the Metropolitan Council’s draft said that Carver County will have difficulty allocating funds in the future, as the housing policy plan puts too much emphasis on public transit, rather than the location of employment.
