School pool, dance options discussed in Forest Lake

Forest Lake Area School Board members were still unsure how to proceed when they met March 5 and began discussing new options after a failed plan to partner with the YMCA for a pool expansion and dance space.

The plan fell apart when the Forest Lake City Council on Feb. 23 voted against changing contract language that would allow the deal.

As it stands now, the district plans to bring two questions to voters in November. The first will include $143 million in deferred maintenance and new construction, including the demolition of the pool at Southwest Junior High, and the second will cover $18 million in upgrades to the arts and athletic facilities. School Board members were split March 5 over whether to add a new pool to Question 2 or introduce a third question to the November ballot.
