Stillwater native appears on ‘Jeopardy’ Thursday

The bright lights of the stage are a familiar sight for Mary Bayer. A 1997 graduate of Stillwater Area High School, Bayer — then known as Mary Schmolke — got her first taste of acting in school productions. At 4:30 p.m. Feb. 5, a different set of stage lights will shine down on Bayer as she competes in the 2015 Teacher’s Tournament on NBC’s “Jeopardy.”

“She first tried out for the show two or three years ago, even flying down to Miami for a mock game,” said Bayer’s father, Stillwater resident Tim Schmolke.

When she didn’t get a call back the first time she tried out, Bayer applied again for this year’s Teacher’s Tournament and got her chance to compete.
