Destination Imagination team takes second in China

A local Destination Imagination team returned from competition in China Dec. 9 with a second-place trophy.

One of two Minnesotan teams to receive an invitation to the first ever Asia-Pacific International Tournament in Beijing, Doug and Marian Boorman’s team, The Merry Band of Misfits, spent several days overseas competing and sightseeing.

Members of a local Destination Imagination team traveled to China earlier this month to participate in the organization’s first Asia-Pacific International Tournament. Team members – from left to right, Brittney Allen, Mikayla Ryan, Mackenzie Allen, Matt Moen and Katie Sigler – take a break from competition to tour the Bird’s Nest, the stadium designed for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Team members include Brittney Allen and Katie Sigler of Blaine High School, Mackenzie Allen of Northdale Middle School, Josh Dischinger of St. Stephen’s Catholic School, Matt Moen of Perpich Center for Arts Education and Mikayla Ryan of Roosevelt Middle School. Josh was unable to attend the competition.

Typically, the first Destination Imagination competition is in March, so to be ready by December on one-month’s notice was a stretch, but the team was up to the task, practicing five times as much as usual.
