Highway 65/169th Avenue NE intersection safety improvement project begins June 4

NEWS RELEASE — Roseville, MN – The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT)  says motorists will experience delays on Highway 65 at 169th Avenue NE in Ham Lake as a project to convert the existing intersection to a ‘reduced conflict intersection’ (RCI) begins Monday, June 4.

During the first stage of the project Highway 65 traffic will be shifted to the outside lanes/shoulders as crews work on median reconstruction.

During the second stage of the project Highway 65 traffic will be shifted to the inside lanes/shoulders as crews work on the outside shoulders. Some non-rush hour lane closures on Highway 65 also may occur. Access from Highway 65 to 169th Avenue NE will be restricted throughout construction, and detours will be posted:

• Westbound 169th Avenue NE: Westbound Constance Boulevard/County Road 60 to northbound University Avenue NE to eastbound Crosstown Boulevard NW/County Road 18 to southbound Highway 65 to westbound Flamingo Drive/169th Avenue NE
• Eastbound 169th Avenue NE: Eastbound Crosstown Boulevard NW/County Road 18 to southbound Xylite Street NE to eastbound 169th Avenue NE

The project will convert the current median crossover at the Highway 65/169th Avenue NE intersection to a RCI intersection, which maintains all movements at the intersection via median opens on Highway 65 just to the north/south of 169th Avenue NE. This removes the need for motorists to cross all four lanes of high-speed traffic or make left turns across oncoming traffic, improving safety at the intersection. The entire project is expected to be completed by early August.
