Lexington Avenue bridge work at I-694 begins next week
NEWS RELEASE – The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) says motorists will encounter lane closures and traffic delays beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, May 7 as work begins on the Lexington Avenue bridge over Interstate-694 in Arden Hills. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in both directions.
During the project, southbound Lexington Avenue will be reduced to one lane for approximately two weeks and northbound Lexington Avenue will remain reduced to one lane through June 2012.
Two week night, overnight closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. also will be scheduled mid-May for both I-694 and Lexington Avenue to remove a portion of the bridge deck. A posted detour will direct traffic east on County Road E or County Road F to reach Victoria Street to access I-694.
Pedestrian access will be maintained on the east side of the Lexington Bridge during the closures.
As part of the reconstruction of the Interstate-694 North Central interchange, the closures are needed to widen the Lexington Avenue Bridge spanning I-694 to add new dual left turn lanes and an improved bicycle/pedestrian lane. The signal system and ramps to and from the freeway also will be upgraded.
