Apple Valley’s head wrestling coach Jim Jackson resigns
Apple Valley athletic director Peter Buesgens has announced that head wrestling coach Jim Jackson has retired from coaching.
He plans to continue teaching in District 196. Jackson is stepping down as coach citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
Jackson has been a part of all 20 state championship teams at Apple Valley. He was an assistant coach for 15 years before becoming the head coach in 1995-96.
His career record of 619-26-3 gives him the highest winning percentage (95.8 percent) in the history of Minnesota wrestling.
Jackson’s teams have won the last seven Class AAA State Championships and 11 of the past 12 state titles. In the past three seasons, the team has been ranked first in the nation twice (2010, 2011) and third once (2012). Under his leadership, 169 wrestlers have advanced to the state tournament, with 131 placing and 56 individual state champions.
