NEWS RELEASE
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar met with Brian Sheehan, Kevin Sheehan, and Susan Peterson, owners of Rural Computer Consultants, Inc., this week to congratulate them for being named the Minnesota Small Business Persons of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The company, based in Bird Island, Minnesota, is a leader in providing user-friendly computer software packages to businesses, primarily in the fuel distribution and insurance industries.

“Small businesses have always been the cornerstone of our economic strength,” Klobuchar said. “Rural Computer Consultants has become an industry leader through its commitment to innovation and dedication to meeting the unique needs of its customers. This company is a prime example of how innovative small businesses are critical to economic development in communities across our state.”
The company opened in Bird Island in 1979 with just two employees – Brian and Kevin Sheehan. In 1998, Susan Peterson and Brian Fagerstrom joined the firm as owners and helped it grow to a dedicated company of over 43 team members.
The Small Business Person of the Year is selected annually by the Small Business Administration based on growth in sales or unit volume, increase in the number of employees, financial strength, innovativeness of product or service, and evidence of contributions to community-oriented projects.
Last year, Klobuchar introduced the bipartisan Export Promotion Act with former Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) to provide small- and medium-sized businesses with the tools they need to tap into markets overseas. This bill was incorporated into the Small Business Jobs Act that was passed into law last year.
