Gov. Dayton proclaims April 29-May 8 Minnesota’s Golf Opener

Play Golf Minnesota Week Marks Official Start of Golf SeasoMinnesota Gov. Mark Dayton signed a proclamation designating April 29 – May 8, 2011 as the Minnesota Golf Opener.

The proclamation states, “Golf in Minnesota is a $1.2 billion industry, employing more than 34,600 people with more than $776 million in total wage income.” It further states, “Minnesota is ranked fourth among a list of golf destinations behind only Florida, Arizona and South Carolina.”

The Minnesota Golf Opener is a 10-day event celebrated throughout Play Golf Minnesota Week, a statewide initiative sponsored by the Minnesota Section PGA and the Minnesota Golf Association. Designed to encourage golfers to learn the game of golf or simply return to the game, golfers will find special offers during Play Golf Minnesota Week at facilities around the state.

“This year we experienced a good, old-fashioned Minnesota winter and golfers around the state are anxious to get on the course and back playing,” said Jon Tollette, executive director of the Minnesota Section PGA. Minnesota Golf Association executive director, Tom Ryan added, “Play Golf Minnesota Week is a terrific time for golfers to get out and find some special offers at great golf courses.”
