Go for the fed grant, Minnesota Chamber urged Pawlenty

The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce strongly encouraged Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty to request a $1 million federal grant to help the state do market research on a possible health insurance exchange.

In a recent letter to the governor, David Olson, chamber president, wrote the grant would not require the state to create an exchange, but allows for needed analysis.

Olson’s letter is notable in that in recent days Pawlenty has been condemning the flow of money coming out of fiscally insolvent Washington — money peddled like drugs, Pawlenty opined in a recent interview.

Pawlenty recently signed an executive order potentially limiting the state’s participation in federal health care programs — something Democrats find deplorable.

But the letter suggests business leaders, too, sometimes look to Washington for dollars.
