Sen. Clark endorsed: Gaertner heads to DFL primary
The nation’s biggest financial resource for women candidates, EMILY’s List, has endorsed Sen. Tarryl Clark, DFL-St. Cloud, for Congress in the 6th Congressional District.
Clark is pitted in a DFL endorsement contest against Dr. Maureen Reed, physician and political activist.
“Tarryl is a proven vote getter in what is traditionally rough territory for Democrats,” said Ellen R. Malcolm, President of EMILY’s List, in a press release.
“Her candidacy puts this district in play and gives Democrats the best shot at picking up this swing-seat in November,” she said.
In another political matter involving a DFL woman candidate, Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner has announced her intentions to take her gubernatorial candidacy to the DFL primary.
At least one other DFL gubernatorial candidate, former U.S. senator Mark Dayton, has already made known his intention to go to the primary.
“To be honest, I think my original plan to rely solely on the endorsement and convention process was too politically limiting,” said Gaertner in a press release.
“I firmly believe that an effort to expand our reach to a much larger universe of Minnesotans is the right direction—especially since some in the field have been in that mode all along,” she said.
The DFL Party announced the next state party-sanctioned forum for DFL gubernatorial candidates will take place Saturday, Jan. 9, at Alexandria Technical College at 1 p.m.
