Media, lawmakers may be taking a train ride next week
For those who have followed the Northstar Commuter Rail saga over the past decade or so — Governor Ventura’s unsuccessful push for bonding, Gov. Pawlenty’s slow sway to line supporter — next Wednesday (Sept. 9) could be the day that would never come.
According to a Capitol source, the House Capital Investment Committee along with the media will be able to take a ride on Northstar from Big Lake to Minneapolis.
The line will go into service soon.
Northstar ranks among the dozen or so most partisan issues of the last decade — assuming school funding and taxation are ongoing debates.
Anoka County lawmakers, such as former representative Kathy Tingelstad and Rep. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, pushed for the line although many of their House Republican colleagues strongly objected to it.
