Gov. Pawlenty directs National Guard to help in search for missing man

Gov. Tim Pawlenty today (Aug. 7) directed the Minnesota National Guard to assist in the search for 82-year-old
Peter Achermann, last seen Friday, July 24, and whose vehicle was found on a dirt road in Staples.

Representatives Al Doty, DFL-Royalton, and John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, sent the governor a letter yesterday appealing to the chief executive for National Guard assistance in locating Achermann.

The missing man’s family, friends, and Greater Brainerd area are deeply concerned over Achermann whereabouts, the lawmakers said in a press release, and are already aggressively searching for him.
The Cass County Sheriff has requested that the guard assist the sheriff’s department in looking for Achermann.
