Photo ID provision fails to pass muster in House
Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, has been a vocal supporter of having a photo ID requirement in state election law. During debate on the omnibus elections bill on Thursday (May 14), Emmer attempted to amend a photo ID requirement onto the bill.
“It’s an outrageous argument — it’s not well thought out,” said Emmer of arguments against the use of photo ID.
The current U.S. Senate drama proves last election’s voting registration had been “completely a mess,” Emmer opined.
But a Democrat countered by saying that Minnesota has a “landmark” election system and a healthy democracy.
The Emmer amendment failed on a 54 to 80 vote.
