Anoka County claims dubious distinction
According to statistics from the Department of Public Safety, since enhanced DWI patrols began back in the fall of 2008 in 13 of the deadliest counties in the state for DWI-related fatalities, 257 motorists have been arrested for DWI in Anoka County.
With the exception of Hennepin County, which saw 210 arrests, no other county comes close: Dakota 39, Ramsey 110, Sherburne 30, Washington 28, and Wright 13, for instance.
The March Operation NightCAP DWI enforcement campaign resulted in 196 DWI arrests, the highest total number of arrests since the program began last October.
A quarter of the arrests, perhaps not surprisingly, occurred around St. Patrick’s Day.
“Our goal is to make roads safer, and that means constant, committed DWI enforcement,” says Lt. Matt Langer of the Minnesota State Patrol in a press release.
“But law enforcement alone can’t stop impaired driving — every motorist has a role and responsibility to have a plan for a sober ride to avoid driving impaired,” he said.
