Senate Majority Leader Pogemiller appoints Lino Lakes professor to heritage council

Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller, DFL-Minneapolis, appointed Michael Kilgore of Lino Lakes to the Lessard Outdoor Heritage Council, a body created by the recent passage of the outdoors and arts constitutional amendment.

Kilgore is an associate professor of natural resources economics and policy at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Forest Resources. Kilgore also serves as director of the Center for Environment and Natural Resources Policy at the university.

Kilgore was appointed by Gov. Pawlenty two years ago to chair the Conservation Legacy Council.

In addition to Kilgore, Pogemiller appointed Sen. Ellen Anderson, DFL-St. Paul, to the council. She chairs the Senate Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Pogemiller also appointed Republican Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen of Alexandria and Lester Bensch of Ashby to the council.

The Heritage Council will meet on Dec. 1 in the State Office Building. Its task is to recommend to lawmakers appropriations from the Outdoor Heritage Fund, created when voters approved the amendment.

According to Heritage Council acting executive director Bill Becker, the fund is expected to hit $80 million in 2010 and $91 million in 2011.
