More congrats to hand out…
South metro volleyball took another step in establishing the place to be in Minnesota for top-level volleyball. Lakeville North senior standout Amy Braun was named Ms. Volleyball, as the top player this season and Eastview took on Shakopee Saturday evening for the Class AAA state volleyball title at Xcel Energy Center.
Later tonight Rosemount takes on Mounds View in the state football quarterfinals at St. Paul Central High School’s Griffin Stadium. Mounds View won a low-scoring section final over Roseville for the 2-5A title on Halloween while the Irish rolled over rival Eastview for the second time in less than a month. My prediction: Rosemount 35, Mounds View 21. The winner faces a tough test in the semifinals with the winner of the St. Cloud Tech/Wayzata game waiting for them in the Metrodome.
Lakeville South ended its season against Cretin-Derham Hall last night (Nov. 7), giving the Raiders an easier shot at winning another state title after Eden Prairie’s 39-game winning streak ended in the quarterfinals against Blaine. The two teams will face off on Nov. 14 at the Dome for a spot in the Prep Bowl.
Another side note, it was great to hear that former Minnesota Wild skater and Jefferson High School grad Mark Parrish not only found a new home with the Dallas Stars, but collected a hat trick in his first game with the old Northstars franchise. It was a shame the Wild bought out his contract over the summmer and who knows if they’ll be able to overcome the scoring void without Pavol Demitra, Brian Rolston and Parrish.
