Kelliher, Sertich voted back in top slots by House DFL Caucus
Rep. Margaret Anderson Kellliher, DFL-Minneapolis, and Rep. Tony Sertich, DFL-Chisholm, were reelected by the House DFL Caucus on Thursday (Nov. 6) evening at an organizational meeting as House Speaker-elect and House Majority Leader, respectively.
The position of Speaker is chosen on a vote by the entire House.
House DFLers picked up two seats in Tuesday’s election.
Kelliher in the days leading up to the election downplayed the odds of Democrats winning a veto-proof majority, 90 seats, by saying hitting that mark was harder than people might expect.
The 47-member House Republican Caucus is expected to meet next week (Nov. 15) to select a minority leader and a candidate for Speaker.
Of the newly elected 134-seat House, there are 91 men and 43 women.
There are 23 newly elected members — three incumbent Republicans lost reelection, three incumbent Democrats lost reelection.
One Republican, Greg Davids, of Preston, was reelected after losing election two years ago to Rep. Ken Tschumper, DFL-LaCrescent.
Davids won his old seat back.
