Tingelstad hardly surprised a Democrat won her district
Rep. Kathy Tingelstad, R-Andover, was matter of fact election night in Bloomington discussing the Democrats winning her district, House District 49B.
Tingelstad, who is leaving office after 12 years and is one of the fabled “Override Six,” the Republican nucleus in the House who voted for the transportation finance bill last session and took heat for it, predicted even then that a Democrat would win.
“It’s a Democratic district,” said Tingelstad.
“I’ve been trying to tell my caucus that for the last twelve years,” she said.
“I clearly voted my district,” she said.
“I voted the beliefs of my district,” said Tingelstad.
“And people see that,” she said.
Democrats like to portray Tingelstad as fleeing office as a result of the unpleasant aftermath of the big vote. But Tingelstad, while saying the backlash influenced her, also talks about the need for making more money to get her children through college.
