Pawlenty looks to Bachmann to win — others less certain
Gov. Tim Pawlenty at a Coleman campaign stop in Anoka on Tuesday (Oct. 28) said he believes 6th Congressional District Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, R-Stillwater, will be reelected.
“I think she’s still going to win the race —it’s a challenging year,” said Pawlenty.
“Obviously she hit some bumps in the road, but she can pull it out,” he said.
Pawlenty opined that Bachmann has attempted to apologize for comments she made on “Hardball” recently pertaining to Sen. Barack Obama, Congress, and Americanism.
“I think she feels bad about it,” said Pawlenty, adding when a public official makes a mistake the best thing to do is apologize and move on.
Rep. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, was less certain of a Bachmann victory.
“I think that will be a horse race,” said Abeler.
“I think words make a difference,” he said.
“It would have been a 55, 54 (percent) race before (“Hardball” for Bachmann). And now it’s truly is a dead heat,” said Abeler.
“I’m not sure what people will decide about it,” he said.
Outdoor writer Jeff Weaver of Anoka, from a distinguished Republican family, said the race is interesting.
“The next seven days are going to be very interesting and I think a lot of people are going to be very happy by next Wednesday morning,” said Weaver with a smile.
“If we knew what the electorate was going to do it wouldn’t be any fun and you wouldn’t have a job,” he said to a reporter.
Bachmann is facing Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg and Independence Party candidate Bob Olson in the race.
