Senate District 16 Republican official says Olson and Krueger signed pledge

A day after the Senate Republican Caucus indicated that Rep. Mark Olson, R-Big Lake, would be excluded from it if elected to the Senate and throwing its full support behind Republican primary challenger Alison Krueger, a local party official today (Friday, Aug. 15) sent out a reminder of a certain pledge.

According to Andrew Mathews, Deputy Chair of the Mille Lacs County Republican Party, both Olson and Krueger signed a pledge prior to the recent endorsement convention in Princeton saying they would abide by the endorsement and not continue campaigning if they lost it — Krueger did.

“We look forward to working with Mark Olson as our endorsed candidate for Senate,” said Mathews in a press release.

Unless some extraordinary circumstance arose, Krueger’s name will appear on the Sept. 9 primary ballot, regardless whether she knocks on a single door or not, because the time for withdrawing from the race has expired.

A Krueger family member said yesterday that Alison Krueger is gone for the weekend.

Although the deputy chair’s press release states that “Mark Olson can be reached…” giving the phone number, wisely no guarantees were offered.

Olson did not return phone calls yesterday.
