Senate Republican caucus gives Rep. Mark Olson the cold shoulder
If Rep. Mark Olson, R-Big Lake, wins the Senate race in District 16 he shouldn’t expected to be welcomed opened arm by the Senate Republican Caucus.
This morning (Aug. 14) the caucus issued a statement in which it threw its “full” support behind behind Republican activist Alison Krueger, who is facing off against Olson in the primary after losing the district endorsement last week.
“It is our intention that Mark Olson, if elected, would not be welcome
as a member of our Senate Republican Caucus. This is not a matter of
philosophy; it is a matter of character and personal integrity,” said Senate Republican Minority Leader David Senjem, R-Rochester in a press release.
“For the past six years, the Senate Republican Caucus and the State of
Minnesota have been the beneficiaries of exceptionally strong
legislative leadership provided by former Senator Betsy Wergin. We see
in Alison Krueger an outstanding alternative candidate who, like Senator
Wergin, combines excellent conservative credentials with a high degree
of personal integrity and character,” said Senjem.
“Accordingly, the Senate Republican Caucus will be throwing its full
support behind Alison Krueger and encouraging Republicans in SD 16 to
vote for her in the September 9th primary,” Senjem concluded.
Olson could not be reached for comment Thursday morning.
