Room to report… and blog

To blog or not to blog… a big question for a lot of reporters and editors.

Does it undermine our journalistic integrity? How do we tiptoe the line and avoid becoming a part of the news we cover? These were the kinds of conversations generated around the table our news meeting when we broached the idea of staff contributing to blogs on the Web site. So blogging is not something we take lightly.

But I do think there is room for reporters to share their thoughts on a variety of topics. I also believe it is wise to steer clear of opining when it comes to the news we cover every week for the newspaper. This is why I don’t plan on focusing this blog on my regular news beat –
