M83 @ The Triple Rock

Last night I went to the Triple Rock Social Club to watch one of my favorite bands M83.
Being an old man I decided to forgo the openers and take a nap after work in preparation. I’m really glad I did. It turns out M83 has really grown in popularity since the last time I saw them (2 years ago). The place was packed. As much as I like to hear new music I think my dislike of being crammed in wall to wall people is far greater. Also on Wednesday nights it appears that the Triple Rock does 2 for ones of PBR and free bacon. While this may sound appealing to some(not me) it makes for a really stinky audience, I’ll leave that to your imagination.
The show itself was pretty decent I’d give it a B-, They did a really good job of playing songs from all of their albums, rather then playing everything on their new album and tossing in one or two of their popular songs from past albums.
What I didn’t care for was the way some of their older songs were played. Some of their older stuff is purely electronic and I would have liked to see it performed that way I guess, but they used a lot more traditional instruments. Worked well for some of their songs, not for others.
If you’d like to know more check out their website here.
Oh and almost forgot here are the pictures I took at the show. Like I said it was pretty cramped so I couldn’t move around very much and the lighting isn’t the greatest there so there’s a lot of blurring and repitition, but oh wells Link.
Didn’t read your blog cuz it’s not current. I was just checking our blogs on the Hometownsource site. Yours caught me eye at first.
Ha!
Marty:
Didja see Wire at First Ave.? I was mesmerized. Though they’ve been around for more than 30 years, it was my first real exposure to the band, which I’ve always read is so post-punk “seminal.”
Well, all right. “Tight” is an understatement; the propulsive, interlocking guitars sort of reminded me of the Feelies. ‘cept Wire is GRIM, and foreboding, but with a GRIN. WAY fun, and a gratifyingly good crowd (and a killer bass player, whoever he is).
I have “Read and Burn 01″ on order.
Hey, Curtiss A Lennon at First Ave. deserves all our attention. Yeah, I know the show’s a cliche by now, but if you haven’t, you oughtta.
After all, the Beatles never did guitar-army live vesions of all those great songs on “Magical Mystery Tour.”
I’ll have to check Wire out. I’ve been hearing really really good things about their new album.
I subscribe to The Current’s Musicheads podcast, I’m not sure if you listen to it at all but it’s a radio show where some of 89.3s DJs and random other staff get together and talk about new albums that coming out.

Just today though I listened to their most recent episode and they all were pretty pumped about Wire’s “Object 47″. I’ll have to give it a listen. I’ve honestly never heard of them before.
